Adventure Iowa—Our journey through all 99 counties of Iowa

This is documentation of our journey through all 99 counties in Iowa. This isn’t just a drive through or a stop-by but a thoroughly researched and planned out trip to all 99 counties in the state of Iowa. Unfortunately, we know we won’t be able to see and do all there is in each of the counties, but our hope is to get a taste of each county as we adventure through the Corn State.

 

The established criteria for this adventure are that we must visit at least 2 attractions (museums, landmarks, parks, etc.), eat at 1 local establishment, and take at least 1 random picture. Also, you cannot visit more than 1 county per day, which we have found to be a little difficult at times for some of the smaller counties!

 

Our goal is to complete all 99 counties by the time our oldest graduates from high school which requires approximately 10 counties per year for the next 10 years!

Disclaimer:  We are including a “return rating” for each county, on a scale from 1-5, 1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest, of our likelihood of returning to that county for more adventures. Just to clarify, the return rating has nothing to do with level of enjoyment of each county, just a measurement of whether or not we would return.

 

Disclaimer: We are also including a list of other things to see/do in each county as we have sadly come to accept that we will not be able to do “all the things” in each county!

 

1 = We have seen all there is to see/We wouldn’t go out of the way to do it again

2 = There are a few things we would still like to see/do or would return to do again

3 = There are some things we would still like to see/do or would return for to do again

4 = There are still a lot of things to see/do or to return for to do again

5 = We would absolutely come back again! There is a lot to see and do!
