(2) Adams County 8.14.2020

We started off our day in Adams County at the local bakery, Sweet Desires, in Corning, where we got our treats to go and walked up to the square to eat them. It had a quaint little main street with shops and restaurants.

After finishing our treats, we headed out to the Icarian Village, which was closed due to COVID; however, we were fortunate enough that the maintenance worker was out mowing and let us into the building and gave us a personal tour and shared the history of the French-Communal residents of Icarian Village. They were very similar to the Amana Colony community. It was definitely neat learning about this little bit of Iowa history.

We tried going back to Corning for lunch at the Primrose, but unfortunately the owners were away on vacation so we ended up at Three C’s Diner. We’re thinking we’re going to have to go back just to try Primrose…

After lunch we stopped by the birthplace of Johnny Carson, which is also in Corning. Unfortunately, it was closed, but we snapped a couple pictures anyway!

Lastly, we spent a few hours enjoying the beach of Lake Icaria!
