(4) Johnson County 9.25.2020

Johnson County has a lot to offer, and we happened to be in the area and decided on a whim to do our county trip which meant we weren’t able to get nearly as much in as what we would have liked to, and in a county that already has so much to offer, we really only just skimmed the surface! This is one that we will have to make another trip back to for sure.

We actually started the day off in the Amish stores, Stringtown Grocery and Central Discount, which is what prompted our visit to Johnson County. After wrapping up our excessive bulk-buying, we decided to head into Iowa City to the original Iowa capital.

Unfortunately, the Old Capitol Museum was closed, but we were able to get some frozen yogurt at the original froyo of Iowa City-Yotopia.

After finishing off our delicious frozen yogurt, we headed to the Devonian Fossil Gorge, which is a dried river bed exposing ancient sea floor fossils. Unfortunately, the visitors center for the Devonian Fossil Gorge was closed due to COVID so that’s one we’ll have to get back to.

We finished up our time in Johnson County searching for a Herky statue to take a picture with. They seem to be everywhere, except for when you’re actually looking for one . . . we may have spent entirely too long trying to find one . . . but alas we found one!
