While making our way to our first stop in Franklin County, Beeds Lake and Dam, we stopped at the city park in Coulter.

Beeds Lake is pretty neat because it has a walking path that goes all the way across the lake as well as a dam that makes a nice little waterfall in the middle of Iowa!

We stopped in Hampton to eat lunch at the Rustic Brew, which had a nice array of sandwiches, scones, smoothies, and coffee drinks- we would definitely recommend stopping here!

After lunch we headed over to the Franklin County Fairgrounds and Historical Society. We were fortunate to get there just as a worker was opening the building and let us in as hours had been decreased due to COVID. There were lots of neat artefacts to explore.

Outside of the Historical Society in the county fairgrounds is a re-creation of an old Iowa town with various buildings to help you get a feel for what it was like to live in Iowa back in the old days. This “old Iowa town” is open and running to the public for the Franklin County Fair that we would definitely come back to enjoy as it was pretty neat just walking through “old Iowa town.”

We attempted to go to downtown Sheffield, but unfortunately the only shop open was an old antique store. We did get to stop at a neat park with a zipline for the kids before enjoying some local Mexican food at La Frontera in Hampton.
