(35) Taylor County 6.10.2023
Taylor County actually started the previous day (6.9.2023) as we stayed at the Heritage Inn Bed & Breakfast in Lenox after touring Page County. The current owners are actually some “great-great” granddaughter and husband of the original owners who built the house (in 1904), but the house had been sold at one point to someone outside of the family and was bought by various individuals through the years before she and her husband bought it 15 years ago and have been working on returning it to its original state! It was definitely interesting learning some of the history of the house!
We started our morning in Lenox at Village Coffee and then made our way to the local park for the kids to play!
We couldn’t miss taking a picture at the “Heritage Mural” in Lenox.
And of course,
snapped a picture of the old Lenox depot before heading out of town
We made our way to Sharpsburg where the “downtown” area was quite bustling this Saturday morning with a local garage sale and the General Store. We enjoyed a chat with the General Store owners who bought it 50 years ago and have run it ever since!
These bar stools and the bar (minus the counter top) are part of the original soda fountain in the general store (circa early 1900’s), and the couple has a puzzle going year-round for community members to stop in and work on.
We also couldn’t
pass up another relic of days gone by 😊
We did make a
quick stop in Gravity because honestly who could pass up this sign?!
We then made our way to Bedford!
We started off
by checking out the Carnegie Library
And the Taylor County Courthouse. We would really like to come back to see the inside of the Courthouse because of its interesting architecture.
We then did some
shopping down the main street area in Bedford where there were a number of
really cute stores and boutiques open. Chatting with one of the local owners,
we found out that Bedford has been working hard the last few years to make Bedford
a “getaway community” to bring in tourists. You can definitely tell that the
town is trying to revive itself which is so fun to see!
We stopped at the Frosty Trete for lunch and some ice cream, and we definitely weren’t disappointed!
Next up was the Taylor County Historical Museum. The main building housed many relics from bygone days along with the history of Taylor County.
There were many other buildings on the complex, including a miniature chapel—the Heritage Chapel
An old caboose
A round barn
that you could go into—the first round barn we’ve been able to go into during
our county trips!
An old school
house
With a sweet
antique playground set
An original log
cabin
And an old jail
After leaving
Bedford, we took a drive through the Lake of 3 Fires—it’s a nice little state
park, but we didn’t stop today!
On our way out of Taylor County we drove through Clearfield and happened to stumble across this statue outside of what looks like an old school building. We have seen this exact statue in front of almost every County Courthouse that we’ve been to (see picture from the previous day in Page County) so we weren’t quite sure what it was doing here so it definitely felt picture-worthy =P
Evidently
Clearfield has a museum that we didn’t find in our research prior to coming,
but it does look closed so maybe that’s why we hadn’t heard about it!
Return Rating: 2
