(38) Cass County 12.2.2023

Our first stop in Cass County was Anita- we couldn’t miss getting a picture of the town sign! We made our way to the main street where we were able to do a little bit of shopping.

Next up was Lewis, but we had to drive through Massena first to see their historical grounds which included a traditional gas station, school house and barber shop.

In Lewis we stopped at the public library which held the Lewis Heritage Center. Although it was a small museum, it was very well done and helped us to learn more about the history of Lewis.

Lewis also has an “Original Old Ferry House” where ferries ran across the East Nishnabotna River.

We also stopped at the George B Hitchcock House which was a stop on the underground railroad. It was unfortunately closed for the season so we would love to come back!

We then made our way to the main attraction of the county, “Christmas in Atlantic”!

We ate at The Downtowner Family Restaurant in the historical Whitney hotel

We of course had to stop at the local Carnegie Library.

And you can’t go to Atlantic without checking out the Coca-Cola Atlantic Bottling Company.

We enjoyed all the Coca-Cola murals throughout town.

To kick off the Christmas in Atlantic, we went through the Tour of Trees.

Followed by a horse-drawn carriage ride.

And ended with the lighted Christmas parade. The parade alone made it worth the trip. The old-town feel with the lights, and the fireworks to kick off the parade was so much fun! We would highly recommend “Christmas in Atlantic.”
