(46) Emmet County 8.16.2024

We actually had our first “stop” in Emmet County on the 15th on our way to Emmet County. We did a drive through Armstrong. There weren’t any attractions we wanted to see, but we thought we might as well drive through and at least catch a peak!

On the 16th, we started our day off at the Central Perk Coffee shop in Estherville.

And then headed over to the site of the biggest meteorite to fall in North America that fell in 1879 only to find out the landmark is 482 feet east of the actual site where it landed—still cool though!

Of course we had to stop in town to get a picture by the meteorite sign!

Next up was the Brugjeld-Peterson Point Historic Farmstead where we got to tour the original farmstead built in 1870 as well as check out the outbuildings on the farm. What was really neat is our tour guides were all descendants of Peter Brugjeld who built the house and whose family lived on the farmstead.

We stopped by the Emmet County Conservation Center on our way back into town. It was a really nice center with lots of animals and educational tools.

Once back into town, we stopped by the Carnegie Library to check out a fragment of the infamous meteorite.

We then headed to the swinging bridge and stopped by the park close by.

After playing at the park, we worked up a bit of an appetite so stopped in for some ice cream at the local Sweet Stop

We were able to visit another historical landmark in Estherville: the Emmet County Historical Society Museum Complex which housed 14 buildings containing history from Emmet County. The complex was so well-done, and we enjoyed looking at all of the different artefacts and learning about the history of Emmet County.

Right next to the Museum Complex was Iowa Lakes Community College

And a splash pad!

We finished up Emmet County with dinner in Ringsted at Smoke N Firehouse No. 20 for some barbeque, and it definitely did not disappoint 😊
