(50) Van Buren County 10.12.2024
We decided to do the Scenic Drive Festival to tour the Villages of Van Buren County, and we were so happy we did- it was such a beautiful day visiting these historical river town!
We started the
morning in Birmingham for the “Trash to Treasure Sale”
and then quickly
made our way to Keosaqua for the Fall Festival parade.
Keosaqua has the
oldest running courthouse, built in 1840.
There’s a historical gothic house in Keosaqua as well
We stopped by
Misty’s Malt Shop for lunch and ice cream
We were able to
go in and check out Hotel Manning
And of course we
paused to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Des Moines River.
Lastly in
Keosaqua we went to the Pearson House Museum Complex where we were able to see
the Underground Railroad safe house.
We headed to Bentonsport
next for the Riverfest
And stopped in
at some antique stores and the Greef General Store
The Mason House
Inn
Again stopped to
enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Des Moines River
And we got to go on a free horse-drawn wagon ride to see some of the old historical houses and buildings of Bentonsport.
We popped over
to Farmington to enjoy the best apple cider floats we've ever had!
And we couldn’t resist stopping in at the Hel Mart where we enjoyed seeing antique rocking horses, award winning dollhouses and got to spend some time talking with the actual maker of the houses!
We also got to
see a huge model train set, up and running.
We did some
shopping on main street Bonaparte
And then
finished Van Buren County the only right way by stopping at the Dutchman’s
Store in Cantril.
