(60) Clinton County 6.29.2025-6.30.2025

We were also fortunate this weekend because it was the Flea Market Antique and Collectibles Show in DeWitt at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. We woke up bright and early and it was still packed when we got there! Definitely a flea market worth visiting.

After scouring for some good finds, we headed to the downtown area of DeWitt for some antiquing and made a stop at the Central Community Museum Historical Society

And the German Hausbarn Museum which now houses the Chamber of Commerce. Since it was the weekend, it was closed, but it was still neat to see!

We then headed to Clinton for some more antiquing. You can seriously just make it a day with all of the antique stores between DeWitt and Clinton.

We trekked up onto the levy for some scenic river views

And got to also see the City of Clinton Showboat Theatre. It would definitely be fun to come back to for a show!

Clinton was the gateway to the west in the late 1800’s, home to many lumber mills, home builders, and iron foundries. In its time, it had the most millionaires per capita, resulting in some pretty impressive
houses and buildings.

So, if you’re in Clinton, you have to make a stop at the Saw Mill Museum which gives an entertaining education of the saw mill industry.

It’s also quite fun for kids- this is probably the biggest water table we have ever seen- the kids played on it for maybe an hour and a half while Travis drooled over the tools and woodworking history.

Another trek up the levy

And then a drive to the Stone Tower at Eagle Point Park for another amazing view of the Mississippi.

We wrapped up Day 1 of Clinton County at the Great Revival Brewery and Restaurant, housed in an old stone church with the original stain glass from the 70’s and other historical pieces handpicked to showcase the beauty of these old churches. Not only was the architecture and ambience amazing, the food was delicious. This is a must to come back to!

Day 2 began at Moxi Coffee Co. in the old Lyons district.

Then a quick stop at the Clinton County Courthouse, just to admire the extravagance of this historical building.

Then another quick stop at the Current Coffee Co. in Camanche. Let’s just say, coffee in Clinton County was not our favorite

We couldn’t leave Clinton County without visiting the Clinton County Conservation headquarters: the Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, complete with concessions, blue heron eco cruises, kayak/canoe rental, and plenty of programs to attend.

And our final attraction in Clinton County was the George Curtis Mansion where we were able to tour all 3 floors of this immaculate mansion, built in 1883, by the founder of Curtis Brothers Co, which specialized in doors, windows, and trim, and boy, did this house show it! We could have spent hours just looking at all of the ornate and intricate detail put into this home.

We needed to eat some lunch before heading home. We wanted to enjoy some more scenic river view so we headed to the Candlelight Inn. Not only did we enjoy the views of the Mississippi, we were also amazed by the thousands of Mormon/May-flies swarming the restaurant. Needless to say, we chose to eat indoors!
