(66) Buena Vista County 6.30.2026

Rather than coffee, we decided to start Buena Vista County off with some fresh donuts from the Storm Lake Bakery!

Although we saw that the Witter Gallery is only open from 1-4pm, we thought we would try our luck and headed to the library to see if it happened to be open during the regular library hours, but alas, it wasn’t- we’ll have to come back for that one!

We were also hoping to see the Christmas displays at the Carnegie Library, but it was closed as well (somehow we did not get a picture of the outside :(

We knew the Harker House wouldn’t be open today, but we made sure to do a drive-by to at least catch a view of it.

What we were able to do is the Living Heritage Tree Museum as it is located at the local park. Although it was just a bunch of trees planted in the park, it was pretty neat to read where they all came from!

While at the park, we enjoyed some beautiful views of Storm Lake.

Buena Vista University is located right off of the lake so we drove through campus- it is definitely a beautiful campus!

Unfortunately, the Buena Vista County Historical Society Museum was also closed; it can be hard visiting counties during the week as so much is closed!

We did stumble across the Pioneer Heritage Exhibit though

And we stopped at the Grand Central Coffee Station for lunch

And then made our way to the main attraction for the day- King’s Pointe Resort- we would highly recommend going to this during the week; it wasn’t very busy at all and was so fun!

We walked over to the Lighthouse afterwards to enjoy some more wonderful views of Storm Lake.

We finished up the day at the Storm Lake Candy Co. for some ice cream for dinner 😊

This is definitely a county to come back to, not only for the things in Storm Lake we weren’t able to see but also to see some of the other sites the towns in Buena Vista County have to offer!
